Yuji, Megumi and Satoru get the third first-year understudy Nobara Kugisaki. Satoru carries them to an unwanted structure almost a graveyard that is involved by Curses as a field test for Nobara. Yuji and Nobara enter the structure and split up to look for the Curse. Yuji effectively overcomes a Curse first floor while Nobara takes out another higher up, and finds a kid stowing away. One more Curse holds him prisoner, and Nobara gives up trying to save him. Yuji can protect Nobara and the kid by crushing through the divider behind it and cutting one of its arms off. As the Curse endeavors to escape, Nobara polishes it off with her Straw Doll strategy. A flashback uncovers Nobara had a companion named Saori who was shunned by local people since she was from Tokyo prior to being driven away, persuading Nobara to try out the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College and create some distance from her town. As an award for finishing the test, Satoru takes them out to supper. After a month, three alchemists are dispatched to exorcize a Cursed Womb at a detainment place in West Tokyo, leaving one dead.
